Fyre Festival 2 is once again making headlines—this time for being postponed indefinitely due to major conflicts with local authorities in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. In an email sent to ticket-holders, organizers say they’ve been “blindsided” by government officials who allegedly supported the event.

When a government takes your money, issues permits, promotes the event, and then pretends it’s never heard of you, that’s not just dishonest—it’s theft,” the statement reads.

Fyre Festival 2 Disaster

Originally planned for Isla Mujeres, the festival was relocated to Playa del Carmen after organizers claimed they received government support and permits. They allege a pattern of support followed by public denial, even after press conferences, promotion, and venue arrangements were made. The statement insists that officials in both regions backtracked only after international media attention resurfaced.

The team behind the sequel—led by Billy McFarland, who was released from prison in 2022 after serving four years for wire fraud related to the original Fyre Festival—say the event is still happening, just not in Mexico.

Despite the setback, organizers maintain that Fyre Festival 2 is not canceled, but instead being relocated. New dates, venue details, and refund policies have yet to be announced.

Fyre Festival

The original Fyre Festival was a failed luxury music festival infamously held in 2017 on the island of Great Exuma, Bahamas. Promised as an exclusive event with top-tier performances and accommodations, it collapsed into chaos and lawsuits. Its co-founder, Billy McFarland, was sentenced to prison for fraud and released in 2022. Fyre Festival 2 is his controversial attempt at redemption.
