Documentary Details

Set to premiere on December 31st, the documentary will also coincide with the release of Avicii – My Last Show, which revisits his final performance at Ibiza’s famed Ushuaïa club in 2016. Less than two years after that show, Avicii, born Tim Bergling, tragically took his own life in 2018, sending shockwaves through the music world.

“I was a lot happier before I was famous than after I was famous,” Bergling reflects in the documentary, which features never-before-seen archival footage. His words reveal the emotional toll of balancing his global fame with his mental health struggles. “I started feeling kind of very empty and unhappy. I hadn’t been honest with myself about what I was feeling.”

Directed by Henrik Burman, Avicii – I’m Tim is a deeply intimate film that draws on “thousands of hours” of private footage, audio recordings, and even family moments captured on VHS. The documentary gives fans a closer look at the artist’s meteoric rise and the unrelenting pressures that came with it.

Tim’s Personal Life

The film also explores a critical moment when Bergling’s father, Klas, staged an intervention alongside family and close friends. “It was excruciatingly painful to see the look in his eyes,” Klas recalls. While initially resistant, Bergling eventually agreed to make changes in his life—a decision that brought temporary reprieve but couldn’t silence his inner turmoil.

The documentary includes heartfelt contributions from Bergling’s collaborators, including Aloe Blacc, who reflects on their song “SOS” and its hauntingly relevant lyrics: “Can you hear me? SOS / Help me put my mind to rest.” Blacc describes the track as a heartbreaking “call for help” that tragically went unanswered.

Other voices in the film, including David Guetta, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and Avicii’s former manager Arash Pournouri, shed light on the immense pressure Bergling faced as a pioneer in the electronic music scene. Their testimonies highlight the profound challenges of navigating fame while staying true to oneself.

Avicii – I’m Tim promises to be a powerful and emotional tribute to a generational artist whose music continues to inspire millions worldwide.
