Details
As expected from earlier leaks, the XDJ-AZ is positioned as the successor to the 2019 XDJ-XZ. AlphaTheta’s new controller maintains a familiar feel for those who are already comfortable with their ecosystem, borrowing elements from the popular CDJ-3000 multi player, including full-size jog wheels. The mixer, meanwhile, mirrors the layout of the DJM-A9, complete with Beat FX assignment buttons, offering seamless club integration for DJs familiar with the brand’s top-tier equipment.
Features
One of the standout features is the built-in Wi-Fi. With CloudDirectPlay, you can directly access and update your rekordbox cloud-based library from the XDJ-AZ. Additionally, StreamingDirectPlay supports Beatport Streaming, allowing DJs to stream tracks seamlessly along with full analysis data. For added reliability, there’s also an Ethernet port, ensuring connectivity in case of Wi-Fi issues.
One of the major improvements from the XDJ-XZ is the inclusion of a large 10.1-inch touchscreen. DJs can now display up to 13 tracks (compared to just 8 on the XZ), view multiple playlists simultaneously, and use Touch Preview and Touch Cue features for quick track previews without loading them onto a deck.
Compatibility
The XDJ-AZ is compatible with both rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro (Serato support available by December 2024), offering versatility for any DJ setup, whether standalone or integrated with other devices. It features three USB ports—two USB-A for external devices and one USB-C for laptops—along with multiple audio inputs and outputs, including two line/phono RCA inputs, two microphone inputs, XLR and RCA master outs, and booth outputs.

With Bluetooth 5.3, the controller also supports wireless connectivity, providing ultra-low latency audio via SonicLink technology for compatible wireless DJ headphones, such as the AlphaTheta HDJ-F10s.
Missing Features
While the XDJ-AZ boasts a range of cutting-edge features, it’s missing a few elements, such as stem separation and AlphaTheta’s recently launched Groove Circuit feature. It remains to be seen if these will be added in future firmware updates.
Despite being a four-deck system, the XDJ-AZ only displays waveforms for two decks at a time. For those who want full visual access, two additional CDJs can be synced via PRO DJ LINK.

The XDJ-AZ is a significant step forward, with major improvements like the upgraded screen and enhanced connectivity. For DJs looking to replace their aging XDJ-XZ, this new model promises to deliver the flexibility and performance needed for today’s demanding environments.
